| Fishing ... You may want to purchase a state fishing license if required, but there are no other costs except bait and tackle. Licenses are available at the Big Bear Liquor Market a few blocks from Honey Bear Lodge. Fishing is free on the lake from all public access points. The local water agency has several fishing derbys and contests throughout the season. CLICK HERE for a local fishing report. CLICK HERE to see photos of the fish you will catch in Big Bear Lake. | |
| Hiking ... There are a few very easy hiking trails right near the lake. Two of our family favorites are the Alpine Pedal Path and the Woodland Trail, on the south side of Big Bear Lake off of North Shore Drive (Hwy 38). Both are easy and make for an enjoyable walk. The paved Alpine Pedal Path is suitable for small children, bicycles and strollers. The Woodland trail requires a bit more effort because it's a dirt trail, although the informative brochure and the numbered posts along the trail make it fun and educational for everyone. | Bicycles ... Bicycles are a great way to get around in Big Bear. No parking hassles, no gas, and you really get to see how beautiful the area is. Although 'Share the Road' signs are all over town, some paved and dirt roads are narrow, so please be careful. Bicycles are allowed on most hiking trails, so put some water and trail mix in your pack and go for it. CLICK HERE for more information. | |
| Discovery Center ... The Discovery
Center is a great source for free information about local animals,
birds and plants. Attractive displays will help you identify what
you see in the forest, and learn about the history of the area.
Helpful staff are available to answer your questions. Hands-on
activities are available throughout the week.
